Children are truly a blessing. They are intelligent, trusting and willing to try anything that involves making some kind of a mess! We need to play with them, read with them and more than anything make that mess with them. At Comfy Country Creations we will include fun stuff for toddlers to teens.

Sidewalk Chalk

  • Dry Plaster
  • Powdered tempera paints in your choice of colors
  • Several cardboard tubes from toilet tissue or other inserts that can be cut to approximately 4 inches
  • Waxed paper
  • Masking tape
  • Water
  • Mixing bowls - one for each color
  • Plastic spoons - one for each color

Cut waxed paper into pieces that will measure 3 inches longer than the cardboard tube. Wrap around the outside of the tube, overlapping 1 inch. Cut. Roll waxed paper into a cylinder shape and place inside the tube with and overhang at each end of 1 1/2 inches. Let the waxed paper unravel inside the tube to fit snug. Use the waxed paper to close off one end of the tube and seal with lots of masking tape so that the mixed plaster cannot escape. Set aside.

In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of plaster and 1 cup of powdered paint. NOTE (1) Add 1/4 to 1/2 cups water. Start with 1/4 cup and mix together, add additional moisture as needed to create a thick paste. Spoon mixture into the tubes. Keep standing upright until dried, approximately 24 to 48 hours depending on manufacturers' instructions. NOTE (2)
Push the chalk out of the tubes and remove the waxed paper. You are now ready to color the world outside!

NOTE (1) If using a plastic bowl, be aware that the paint may discolor it. Read manufacturers' instructions regarding stains.
NOTE (2) Some plasters can be micro-waved to shorten drying time. Be sure to read and follow manufacturers' instructions.
